PGECET

Well, This article details about the admission into M.E, M.Tech, M.Arch, M.Pharm courses in Andhra Pradesh. Post Graduation Engineering Common Entrance Test (PGECET) is the way if you have scored low or disqualified in GATE exam.

PGECET every year is organised by Osmania Univeraity. Notification will be released in the month of march every year and exam is conducted in may/june of every year.

  • The vacant seats after admitting GATE/GPAT qualified candidates will be filled with the candidates based on the Rank/percentile score secured in the PGECET Entrance Test.
  • Counselling for GATE/PGECET will be conducted at the same time. Separate notification will be issued for admission for GATE/GPAT Qualified candidates.
      For Complete Information, Click here:

                                                             www.appgecet.org/

EXAM PATTERN:

  • Exam duration will be 2hours.
  • Question paper will completely in english
  • Question paper consists of around 120 question and they are completely MCQ'S.
  • There is NO NEGATIVE MARKING for wrong answers
  • To qualify, Candidates should score 25% of whole marks. (Not applicable for SC/ST).

ADMISSIONS:

PGECET paper is comparatively easier than GATE exam. minimum knowledge on the subject in enough to qualify in the exam but if you really want to get into UNIVERSITIES then you have to score very well. Usually, Rank below 100 will fetch you universities. For this you have to get marks >60. The vacant seats after admitting GATE/GPAT qualified candidates will be filled with the candidates based on the Rank/percentile score secured in the PGECET entrance Test. Universities accepting PGECET score/rank for admission in the state of Andhra Pradesh were given below:

  • OSMANIA UNIVERSITY (O.U)
  • JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY-HYDERABAD (JNTU-H)
  • JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY-KAKINADA (JNTU-K)
  • JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY-ANANTAPUR (JNTU-A)
  • ANDHRA UNIVERSITY
  • ACHARYA NAGARJUNA UNIVERSITY (ANU)
  • SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY (SVU)

According to me, Top colleges in Andhra Pradesh are:

  • OSMANIA UNIVERISTY(O.U)
  • JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY-HYDERABAD (JNTU-H)
  • ANDHRA UNIVERSITY(A.U)
  • JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY-KAKINADA (JNTU-K)
  • SRI VENKATESWARA UNIVERSITY
  • GAYATRI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
  • JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY-ANANTAPUR (JNTU-A)
  • V R SIDDHARTHA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
  • CHAITANYA BHARATHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY(CBIT)
  • MAHATMA GANDHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY(MGIT)

Frankly speaking one should not expect much for placement from these colleges. My words were not implied to zero placements. Because of the fact in India that B.Tech students are preferred over M.Tech, placements for PG students were bit low. Talented persons can shine any where. If your career ambition is teaching or research then prefer University. University tag line is itself helpful for teaching jobs and research and many of our universities were good in teaching, faculty, infrastructure. To get into univerisities like OU, AU, JNTU-H, JNTU-A, JNTU-K, SVU one should get

                                                          RANK<100 (OC)
                                                          RANK<150(OBC)
                                                          RANK<600(SC/ST)

NOTE: PGECET admissions also depends upon the Universities Regions (AU, OU, SVU)

GATE- TIPS TO PREPARE, CUTOFFS, TOP COLLEGES

" TO ACHIEVE GREAT THINGS WE MUST NOT ONLY ACT BUT ALSO DREAM, NOT ONLY PLAN BUT ALSO BELIEVE"   - ANONYMOUS

"I WAS FAILED IN SOME SUBJECTS IN EXAM, MY FRIENDS PASSED ALL THE SUBJECTS. KNOW HE IS AN EMPLOYEE OF MICROSOFT AND I AM THE FOUNDER OF MICROSOFT"  - BILL GATES

There will be a question mark in every one's life what to do after B.TECH!!! Depending upon the persons they will choose different ways. Some go for Jobs, some for MBA, some for M.TECH, some for govt jobs etc. Well if you choose M.TECH then here I am for you to give any information regarding M.TECH.  If you really want to do M.TECH then i would strongly suggest you to prepare and crack GATE exam.

FYI(For Your Information) How To Prepare:

But before we start,  3 things for you to keep in mind:
  • If you are a student who has studied in an less rated college in your under-graduation (BE/BTech) and always criticized and cribbed about your college, THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY! Go a head and prove your worth by cracking GATE!
  • Many people asked me queries like my B.TECH percentage is around 60, how can i crack gate to get IIT's. Unlike CAT, where your previous academic and non academic performance matters along with work experience, GATE is based on scoring well in a single exam and provides you an even ground to compete. You can beat the students from top engineering colleges like IITs/NITs/IIITs etc. implied that you put effort.
  • Don't feel depressed if near and dear ones don’t consider you worthy of cracking GATE.  If you really want to do it, DO IT. There is word "POSSIBLE" in "IMPOSSIBLE", So there is nothing a human can't achieve and if you doubt yourself please drop the plan to appear in GATE and find some other option that fascinates you.

Preparation Tips:

  • Believe in yourself:   First part is the most interesting part of the story where u will decide u can do it or not. Take the right motivation from any of your sources and start to believe in yourself and say to your self that "I CAN DO THIS". If you really hung to that belief trust fellows 30% of the job is done.
  • Plan your time table: Usually 4-5 hours of serious preparation is enough for a day. With vast syllabus about 10-15 subjects you have plan your study accordingly.
  • Good Reference Books and Short notes: Make use of your resources to get a good reference text books  make up your own short notes with imp points, formulas, equations etc.., This will be very very useful when your at revision.
  • Brush up Your fundamentals:  Prepare until you get strong grip over fundamentals. Believe me, Gate is a easy exam if your good with basics. With out them not matter how much you prepare you will be doomed in the exam.
  • Share, Discuss, Clarify:  Pick your friends for group discussion, If your are good at some topic clarify their doubts. Share your knowledge by which it will increase. If you have any doubts feel no shy to ask any one to get clarification. well to speak of don't sleep until you had your doubts clarified.
  • Manage the syllabus and topics: Never have the mindset of ignoring some specific subjects completely. The moment you build this negative mindset you will not be able to cover these subjects till the end. Do a realistic allocation of time for each subject. You need to cover each topic thoroughly because the syllabus is huge and questions can be asked from anywhere.
  • Solve and Practice:   This is the key to get high scores in gate. Solve as many problems as you could. take up new problems, Solve it on your own no matter how much time you took. the things you have look is you did correctly or not. Solve number of Problems on different models. This will improve your way of approaching and solving the problems.
  • Test your self with mock tests: Complete your preparation at least 2 months before the exam. Keep this 2 months for revision with short notes that u made and by writing as many mock tests as possible. This helps you to know your standard, your weak areas in subject and time management.
  • Tackle exam with confidence:  On the day or day before of your exam don't get too tensed. Stay calm and cool, eat light food. Enter the examination hall with confidence. Just believe in yourself and your hard work. If you don't get answer to a question don't get stick to that, Instead just move to the next question. Don't go for blind guess of an answer, That will cost you too much.

FYI(For Your Information) GATE-ADVANTAGES:

The main benefits of GATE score are:

  • Admission- A candidate can get admission to top engineering institutes like Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), Intenational Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and with good GATE score.

  • Jobs- Most of the public sector hire candidates with good GATE scores. (Powergrid, NTPC, NHPC, HPLC, IOCL, HAL, BPCL, GAIL, MDL, NFL, MECL, NLC, CEL, VIZAG STEEL, GSECL, NPCCL, RITES, NALCO etc.,)

  • Stipend- A student can get a stipend of Rs 8000 to Rs 14000 per month for their M.Tech course, which may vary based on the institute. All AICTE approved college students who joined m.tech through gate are eligible for a stipend of Rs.8000. The candidates who have qualified the GATE exams are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship which is provided for the projects sponsored by CSIR Laboratories and CSIR.

  • Foreign prospects- International Universities like Nanyang Technological University(NTU) and National University of Singapore(NUS) offer admissions to candidates based on their gate score. (>96%le)

  • Getting prepared for the GATE exam will also help the students to focus on other prominent PSU recruitment examination which includes NTPC, AP Genco, BSNL, AP Transco, CIL etc.

Ranking:

Many people think that college should be judged by its placements,( why not coz every one wants a placement with a decent packages) but placement is not only the criteria for judging a college. Main things like faculty, infrastructure should be considered. According to me TOP 10 would be:

IIT-MUMBAI         -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
IIT-DELHI            -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
IIT-MADRAS         -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
IIT-KANPUR         -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
IIT-KHARAGPUR   -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
NIT-TRICHY         -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
NIT-WARANGAL   -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
BITS-PILANI         -Rich in faculty, infra, placement (Ranks 1st among the Deemed Universities)
DCE                   -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
IIIT-ALLAHABAD   -Rich in faculty, infra, placement
              NIT-CALICUT       -Rich in faculty, infra
IIIT-HYDERABAD   -Rich in faculty, infra, almost 100% placement
IIIT-B, IIIT-D        -Rich in faculty, infra, placement

Well the placement depends upon the persons talent and the branch he was studying. I am not saying that others were not good, I am just saying that try to get these colleges. Sure, you will be a complete person at the end of your course with high paying job :) isn't that nice !!

ADMISSIONS:

IIT's conduct their own admission process. some may have direct admission based on the candidate rank and some may have written test and interview and some may have only interview. If your dream is to get into TOP 5 IIT's , Then you must have rank of below

OC       - 400 ( gets interview calls from all IIT'S, have to perform well in interviews)
OBC    - 600 ( gets interview calls from all IIT'S, have to perform well in interviews)
SC/ST  - 3000 ( gets interview calls from all IIT'S, have to perform well in interviews)

Admission into NIT's is conducted through CCMT  a centralized counseling, For any NIT rank should me around:

                      OC      - 2000
                      OBC    - 3500
                      SC/ST  - 8000

If din't get IIT's and NIT's, I suggest you not to worry coz there are some good colleges. Those institutions are known with the name CENTRAL UNIVERSITIES which are having faculty and infrastructure equal to IIT's. Fee is also very less. If your career goal is research these are the best places. Like IIT's they will release their own admission notification. Some selects the candidates with gate score, where as some conduct their own exam. TOP 6 where you can decent placement is:

DELHI COLLEGE OF ENGG (DCE)              -Through GATE- (Score >600)
